What kind of medicine should I ask my doctor? pain medications, sleep medications or muscle relaxants?

In the 10 minutes, lie down I get terrible spasms in my middle back down. The question is if I'm on my back or side. I deal with sleeping on your back on an adjustable bed head and knees slightly raised. I currently do not need to use drugs to control spasms, as seems to be purely positional. The problem is that I take a holiday two weeks and will not be able to use an adjustable bed. I need something strong enough to let me sleep by spasms inevitable. Are muscle relaxants will do the job? I'm feeling that she could offer me first. Perhaps a combination of drugs may do the trick? I can not use pillows to get the very fact that adjustable bed, you just slip and I wake in a spasm anyway. I need to know what questions to ask before you go see my doctor. Any advice you can offer is greatly appreciated! Thanks!

A good drug to try is called carisoprodol. It goes by the brand name "Soma." I think it is a better treatment than other muscle relaxants as cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril alias), and also has analgesic property. It is very relaxing, and should help you sleep. Valium would be as effective, but doctors are increasingly reluctant to prescribe because it is a controlled substance, and is perceived as addictive. I do not think analgesics (narcotics) are the way forward because the muscle relaxing properties are variable at best, and the side effect profile is favorable. It would not be a bad idea to ask your doctor to refer you to a physical therapist to take a look at your problem.
