Gibson bridge question…?

I have a custom Ibanez guitar, wizard II neck, hardwood body and fixed bridge (Gibson style stop peice and tune-o- matic adjustable bridge). I know the “proper” way to string it, but have seen guys string them in reverse, putting the strings in from the front, over the top and then over the bridge. I’ve heard it helps with tone/sustain, but is there anything to this or are they just trying to be different?

So, running the strings through the front of the stop tailpiece? and out the back and over it back to the bridge saddles?! Hmm….. sounds to me like a guitarists version of how the kids tie their tennies in different ways through the eyelets! LOL! I just don’t see how that is going to affect tone or sustain, the bridge saddles are more of a crucial point for that, since it’s a cut-off point, and the stop tailpiece is not as tone conductive, and actually the whole idea sounds like more trouble, cause that goes against the “straight line” theory. I’d just restring normally. Btw- if you want an actual tone / sustain enhancement , i’d suggest getting some Graphtech String Saver saddle replacements. They make them for just about any bridge saddles , and i know they have tune-o-matic replacements. I just direct ordered a set last week for my Charvel / Jackson, and i’m pretty impressed so far – noticeable sustain , strings ring out louder , and intonation is very good.
