Amplifier Deaf Hearing

Amplifier Deaf Hearing
My employer who hires disabled people called me into his office and told me that I was doing a good job as a?

habilitation aide. However, When I had requested an amplifier for a telephone so I can use it. He asked me why I didn’t tell him i was deaf. I didn’t think he had to know when he hired me. I was afraid he wouldn’t have hired me if I told him. I told some employers I was deaf to see what their reaction would be. Most of them looked at me funny and never called me back for a job. Now I am afraid to tell anyone that I am deaf because if I do they won’t hire me. I do really well at reading lips and I wear two hearing aides that I hide with my longish hair. My employer didn’t know I was deaf until I told him so I must be really good at lip reading. My speech is very good after many years of speech therapy. So, was I wrong for not telling him?

I work in healthcare and have two medical conditions which may affect my job performance intermittantly.

I do not divulge these conditions until after a job offer has been made, but I do divulge them then. Obviously, they are not something that someone would be able to see by looking at me, like a missing body part.

For me, this is what works. The one diagnosis I share with only my manager, the other (the fact that I use an insulin pump) tends to come up in conversation pretty quickly when folks see it.
