Question about sleep apnea?

My husband has sleep apnea, he has not been diagnosed, but every night i have to nudge him 10 times so he starts breathing again. He is dead set that it is something in our apartment that is causing his apnea. He thinks the vents are so dirty, they are the reason. That or the air is sooo dry his throat sticks together. I have never read about environmental things causing apnea, but who knows. Please anyone, have you ever heard of something like this?
He is 23 years old and a little over weight. not by much, though. He is 6′5″ and 240 lbs

Allegies can impact apnea, however, they are not the only factor. You have to be pretty close to having apnea in order for an allergy to push you over that edge. He may well have a related condition, hyponea (sp?) that an allergy pushes into apnea.

Having said that, both apnea and hyponea are very hard on the heart (in some ways, hyponea is worse). Left untreated, he will die at an early age from a heart attack.

His doctor can send him to do a ’sleep study’. They will hook him up to monitors and he sleeps overnight at a hospital. If the problem really is in your environment, then the study will show everything is normal. If he stops breathing in the hospital, then they will be able to diagnose his condition and he can get a CPAP machine to rectify the problem.

If you love him and don’t want him to die young from a heart attack, push him to see his doctor!
