Arm Blood

positioning of the arm when taking blood pressure?
When i take my blood pressure allowing my arm to be down on the couch I get a high reading but when I raise my arm like to the height of my chin I get a lnormal reading?! anyone know why?
The arm should be at the level of the heart when taking blood pressure.
