Where can I find floor plans for a open area workshop to build in my backyard?

It needs to have an open area at least 20 feet square and have a regular door plus a garage type door to the outside. It needs a small kitchenette area and at least a 1/2 bath. I will need space around the inside wall to build a large variety of work benches for electronic radio work, craft building, etc.

You can find building plans at any building supply center. You may have to modify the plans somewhat to allow for a garage door (overhead). Basically, you are building a small garage. Easier to go with a large door by making in 2 halfs that swing out. A 10′ by 12′ design would do it. This will give you a floor of approx. 120 sq ft. Handyman magazine sometimes has pictures and plans for something like this. Search the back issues or contact them for the info you need.I think what you really need is a large type garden shed and add the wiring/insulation. Finish the walls with OSB or plywood. Add your benches/shelving/kitchenette to suit your needs. When wiring install plenty of outlets and use 3/4″ treated plywood for the floors. You can heat these workshops with an electrical/oil radiator heater and it works very well. I built one of these 5 years ago from scratch with no plans and used it for a small repair shop and storage for my riding lawn mower. I added a ramp to the large swing-out doors to get the mower in and out. I set the shed on cement blocks in-line with the floor stringers and didn’t need to anchor it down as it was heavy enough. I hired n electrician to trench an electrical line to the hobby shed and installed a security light above the door. I also had a tv/phone. Build this the right way and utilize the upper area for storage. Your major work issue will be with the kitchenette if you want it plumbed (I would forget doing this). Way too expensive and has to meet code. Have a blast doing this!
