Why can’t one take a blood pressure or draw blood on the arm of the side that a mastectomy was done?

What are the complications that can occur and why?

When a mastectomy is performed, lymph nodes are removed as well. The Lymph nodes help drain fluid from the arm. Without these, there is a fluid build up in the arm. If a blood pressure is taken there, it will not only be inaccurate because of this build up but can further damage the pathways that are left to drain fluid from the arm, creating Lymphedema.
