If I have pain, should I wear a knee brace all the time, or only when running?

My knee hurts from an old injury when I am run often (every other day). It is not from the impact, from what I can tell, because it persists no matter what surface I run on… apparently the ligaments are loose. The knee actually does not hurt while i am running, but usually after I have been sitting and am immobile for a while. It also hurts whenever I put any lateral resistance on the leg such as folding it under me when sitting. It doesn’t hurt if I don’t run…but it hurts less the more I run. So, should I wear a brace all the time or just when I go running? Also, what is the best brace to use to support the ligaments, one with a rigid bar and a joint, or one that is just flexible? Would wearing a brace prevent them from healing strong?

that old injury is not going to heal. Ligaments and tendons only have about 6-8 weeks after the injury to heal, after that period, if your knee ligaments and tendons have not fully healed, you will have only partial healing. Platelets stick around in the joint for another long period of time to handle future injuries, then they leave to take care of other things.

The brace should be worn everytime you run so you keep everythign supported so your knee bones do not collide and rub against eachother. This will not cause any adverse effects.

You need to start strengthening the muscles in your lower thighs and your hamstrings. When the muscles are tight, it supports the ligaments and tendons more than they would if they were weak and or lazy.

I know i have answered this question before for you and told you to look into prolotherapy. This will cause your tendons and ligaments to tighten up and heal so you wont need that brace anymore and you wont have any pain in your knee when you run or exercise. It really does work!
