Aviation experts – couldn’t commercial airlines be made much safer by having seating that faced backwards?

I was sitting on a flight yesterday and something occurred to me. In survivable plane crashes, a large proportion of serious injuries occur due to passengers being thrown forwards, hence the need to adopt the brace position. Therefore, wouldn’t simply rotating seats to face the rear of the plane provide passengers with a great deal more protection, as their seats would now support them and stop them being thrown (backwards)?

This was actually looked into in the early 50’s.Turns out it causes a couple of problems first take off and landing while facing backwards can be how can I put this a bit hairy.Remember if you have ever been in in a plane at take off that you get push back in you seat from the acceleration.The second is it caused some severe motion sickness in the test passengers.
