Canal Hearing Aid

hearing aid use?
I recently got a hearing aid,one that is in the ear canal,a half shell and the brand is Oticon.I am in my 70’s and have never used one before. I only use one as I have complete loss in the other ear. My question is,why am I hearing my own voice so loud? I turn the aid down ,then I cannot hear people ,but when I turn it up to hear others,it drives me crazy,as the sound of my voice is so loud.Any one have this problem??
This is a very common problem. What is happening is when you put something in your ears and talk your voice will sound different (try using your fingers without your hearing aid in). This is the same phenomenon with the hearing aid in. It is plugging up your ear and affecting the sound of your voice. Sometimes the audiologist who fit the aids can improve the sound of your voice by making changes to the programming of the aid on the computer. For the most part you just need to wear the aids as much as possible in order to get used to them. It will get better with time.
