Cold Carpal Tunnel

Can carpal tunnel syndrom cause fingers to lock up?
I was working with a friend today and while she was hammering away on a two by four, her right hand suddenly seizes up. From what I could tell her middle two fingers folded into her palm tightly around the hammer and she told me it felt like someone was pushing their finger into her interior forearm about half-way between her elbow and wrist really hard. She said there wasn’t much pain either.
I thought she was having a stroke or something because she said there was hardly any pain and she’s around 55 years old and was sweating profusely from the heat as we’re ripping out a sheetrock ceiling.
I pulled her fingers away from the hammer and took it from her hand. She manually moved her two middle fingers till the feeling came back into them and the sensation of someone pushing their finger really hard into her forearm left.
She called me a little while ago and said her thumb and forefinger and middle finger have icy cold/hot needle sensations and her wrist aches a little.
I don’t know if it’s carpal tunnel, isn’t that usually a pain in the wrist? It sounds like a severe muscle spasm. Needle sensations could be a pinched nerve in her neck. Possible subluxations….if it continues I would go to a chiropractor.
