What types of disability require canes or crutches?

Does anyone know of specific disabilities that require the use of crutches and / or canes. I can only think of that injury. foot and knee, but no real disadvantages. Thanks

I have rheumatoid arthritis and osteoporosis and the need for crutches the balance on my elbow because I have a weakness in the legs and lose balance easily.
