To my knowledge the only way to measure blood pressure without surgically implanted a sensor is putting pressure on blood vessels from the outside. When the external pressure equals the pressure within the blood stops flowing. A sphygmomanometer modern electronic simply automates the process by which a nurse or doctor inflates a cuff around the arm and heard the bloodstream with a stethoscope.
