Should I get a ketone test strip thing to check for diabetes?

My mom is not supportive of me thinking I have diabetes. I told her all my symptoms etc. and she just let it go. I read in someone elses’ question to try ketone strips and see cause they can tell you if your diabetic? This didnt sound all right to me. Can they really? Would this be a good thing to just go to walmart and buy and then if they are bad or something to show my mom. ? Thanks so much for all the help in advance! as you can tell I am getting worried.
The person who told this person to try it said to drink a full can of regular pop and then try it. Would that make a difference?

As already stated, ketostix test for the presence of ketones in your blood, not for diabetes as such.

The presence of ketones is not, however, an ironclad proof of diabetes, nor it is directly related to high blood sugar. (So the “drink a can of full-sugar pop, then test for ketones” method is entirely worthless.)

Ketones are a byproduct of the body consuming fat or protein (muscle tissue) for energy. This occurs in type 1 diabetes because the lack of insulin prevents the body from being able to derive energy from glucose/carbohydrates (including, but not limited to, sugar). However, if you are dieting, your body will also be deriving energy from fat (“burning fat”), which will produce ketones even if you do not have diabetes. And, conversely, elevated ketone levels are not particularly common in type 2 diabetes.

The only reliable ways to test for diabetes would be to test repeatedly to establish a pattern of elevated blood glucose levels or to do a hemoglobin A1c test, either of which should really be done by someone with the medical training and experience to interpret them, i.e., a doctor.
