Knee braces, the type for runners and football players?

can any one tell me what is the basic difference between an elastic type brace that fits right over the knee and the wide rubber band type that fits below the knee.
I also have seen that type below or above the elbow on football- and basketball players.
Last question,does anyone know the name of this type,so I can order one. Thank you guys.

The non hinge type of knee braces are pretty much what I call “mind braces”. They only really help your knee in your mind. There are exceptions: like if you have a knee cap issue the non hinged braces do work, also the pressure of the non hinge braces can help the athlete forget about the pain (the analgesic effect if your right thumb hurts hit your left thumb with a hammer and the right thumb will no longer hurt).

If you need serious knee protection you need to get a brace with a hinge which is custom made. Those elastic type braces will not prevent 99% of knee injuries. They might aid in knee function depending upon the problem you are having.

The short version is that you should consult with your orthopedic surgeon about what type of brace is best for you.
