Why does my iPhone 2G go back to the emergency call screen after I use Blackra1n?

When use Blackra1n to jailbreak my iPhone with 3.1.2 firmware, it works perfectly fine and says to wait for the iPhone to reboot. When the iPhone reboots it goes back to the “connect to iTunes” screen with the “slide for emergency” option. What’s going on?

If you upgraded to 3.1.3 and then managed to downgrade to 3.1.2, you can jailbreak but you cannot unlock the phone.
