How long in school do I have to be in if I want to be a Trauma Surgeon or Paramedic?
When I graduate from High school, I will already have a CNA certification, EMS and EMT certification.
Since i have these certifications, how much school would I need to become a Paramedic?
A Trauma Surgeon?
Thank you!
To be a paramedic, it sounds like in many places you would already be qualified upon graduation, although some areas may require an associate’s degree, which would mean two more years of school.
To be a trauma surgeon is another matter altogether, because your certifications, while nice, won’t substitute for any of the other education that you will need a bachelor’s degree (4 years), followed by 4 years of medical school, then a year of general residency, followed by a five-year surgical residency, and then 1-2 years in a fellowship in trauma surgery. That would be 14-15 years of education (although the last 7-8 of those would be paid).
