How Batteries Torch / affected by temperature?

OK, as the family cats were asking us to get a pointer lasers can lead, we went to the store and has a laser pointer and a spare battery pack – the same cells that vary in size headphones. So today I got the laser pointer to entertain the cats, and lots of it had almost no power. So putting new batteries in it, in that Energizers and almost no light exiting the laser pointer. The platform on which the laser pointer and batteries were in a little cold (upper 50 I guess) through an exterior door cabinet. Can the temperature in the storage cabinet having an impact on how these batteries are operating? Hmmm, well, it seems a bit strange that Energizers seems to be DOA after only short-term use. Other ideas on the two battery packs are disappearing after little use?

NO, it would take extreme temperatures affect the batteries. Good work, however, calls my cats and dogs too. PS I mean extremely well below freezing and high temperatures really think about what you go through the truck or plane to go to the store.
