Why pharmaceutical companies use the glycerin in toothpaste, acne cream, ear drops and eye drops?

Glycerin is sweet, attracts water, and is part of the fatty acids. If you add water and yeast or bacteria, are not those of the expansion? With water, do not create an ideal environment for your order to grow? How do I close when the water and yeast is added? Why pharmaceutical companies use the glycerin in toothpaste, acne cream, ear drops and eye drops? I understand that helps maintain a moist, acts as a preservative keep other ingredients suspended etc is well within the sterile package, but when you add buttons to germy wet or ear infection, not perpetuate hot and humid flora? It is used in candy, why I put the buttons? Has anyone done this for a test?
