Why is my foot and ankle swollen after hurting my knee?

I fell about a week ago skateboarding and banged up my knee. now, my foot and ankle have swollen up and are bruised even though i didn’t do anything to hurt them. Any idea why my bruised knee may have caused my foot and ankle to swell and bruise?

Swelling is caused when blood collects to heal an injured area. Sometimes, the blood moves down the body due to gravity, in this case to your foot and ankle.
