Foot Orthodics

My left foot has been swollen for months and the swelling won’t go away. It hurts to walk. Please help!?
My left foot is swollen and hurts. This has been going on for a year. It started out minor – just hurting for a few minutes after I tried to walk on it after I had been off my foot for a long time (like right after I woke up or after I was in the car for a long time). It progressively got worse over time to the point where it was really hard to walk. I’ve seen 2 doctors. One said she thought I had a stress fracture, but after taking x-rays, decided it was not fractured and that I just had tendonitis. She told me to take 800 mg Motrin and it would go away in a month (it didn’t). The other doctor told me I had flat feet and needed custom made orthodics and that would fix my problem. That doesn’t make sense to me since I’ve had flat feet all my life and my right foot is fine. I think he just wants money for the expensive orthodics. Does anyone know what could be wrong. I’m tired of limping and taking Motrin all the time. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
This should not be. You need some special testing. The x ray does not always find the fracture if there is one. You may need a bone scan or CT or MRI. Orthotics are not going to help this from what you describe. It is not tendonitis. It sounds like you may have hit on two doctors that are either not so bright or trying to sell you orthotics. No I take that back. They both are not too bright. A bright one would diagnose you correctly and then sell you the foot orthotics. I would probably do a bone scan. Then move to advanced imaging.
