My mother is in a wheelchair, paralyzed from her waist down. She’s perfectly dependent,?

and does anything she wants to do when she wants to do it. The problem is, she can’t get insurance. She receives a survivor’s benefit from ssi, because my father was killed, so that disqualifies her from disability. Every insurance firm turns her down because she makes a mere 2.00 more than she should.
Her wheelchair is 8 years old. She’s starting to get drop foot because her feet dont sit right in it. The gel cushion for her behind is busted. Her tires have absolutely no tread left. She cannot afford a new chair, due to medical expenses for my diabetic brother.
My husband and I would like to hold a benefit to raise money for a new chair. I don’t even know how to go about it. Any ideas? Any at all. Thank you!

You need to contact an “Independent Living Center”. Independent Living Centers are not living facilities. Rather, the provide services and programs to individuals with disabilities to allow them to remain independent in the privacy of their own home.

There are grants and funding resources available to people who have specific needs met but cannot afford it due to being on a fixed income. Also they can tell her what other kinds of benefits she may be eligible for.
