When should I test my blood sugar?
I'm not diabetic, but have a family history of it, and I believe I have symptoms, so I want to test my blood sugar in the blood to verify. I have a surveillance system of the house, but do not know when to use it (before or after meals) and glucose levels should be? Thanks:)
I'm sorry but I agree with both responses received to date … at least in some points of what I do. The best time for you to be tested after fasting (not eating) overnight. It is OK to drink water that does not affect the reading. Post prandial glucose test … taken two hours after eating … should give a result less than 140 mg / dL. (This is the level than non-diabetics might expect.) If the glucose test Fasting blood and reached above 126 mg / dl on two or more times, you should consult your doctor, perhaps you can send an OGTT (oral tolerance test glucose). Here overnight fast and a blood test (which gives doctors / phlebotomist a basis on which you can compare other outcomes.) Then there will be a glass of Glucola dessert called soaking. Then, blood drawn after 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours, and perhaps more, depending on the size of a test your doctor he asked. The results of these blood samples will tell the doctor how your body is effective to treat a sudden influx of glucose, the simple sugar that is broken our food during digestion. He / she will be able to determine if your body is resistant to the effects of insulin your pancreas is still producing. I'm glad you know that having a history of diabetes family history puts you at higher risk of developing itself. This puts you at an advantage that can test your blood sugar level in the blood to see if the hand, and you can start to stay healthy by adjusting your diet and exercise. So be it. I sure most of us with sense, I do not want to go to develop diabetes.
