Where is my ink going?
I have an Epson R285 printer but everytime I print the ink is just swallowed up very quickly – much more than is normal! Today I just replaced ALL of my cartridges. I printed a few pages but there were streaks on them so I did a few “head cleans” but the yellow was still not right. After about the 3rd head clean my light magenta is almost gone and my yellow is half empty! Please bear in mind that I’ve printed about 5 pages since changing the ink! Can anyone help or advise why this is happening? I’m not using Epson genuine ink but I don’t know if the problem is with the ink or with the printer itself.

I realise that cleaning the ink uses ink, but surely it shouldn’t use half or even a whole cartridge?? After 3 cleans and them still not being cleaned, why am I almost out of 3 ink cartridges??
Unfortunately telling me to get another printer doesn’t help. I’ve paid a decent amount of money for this printer and I need one that can print CDs as well.
I have heard of issues with this particular printer and the usage of remanufactured or compatible cartridges. In addition to the printer not recognizing the cartridges, it also seems like the speed with which the printer consumes the ink is an issue. I honestly think this issue is the result of not using name brand replacements. I hate to say this b/c I’m a huge fan of non-OEM cartridges. If I were you I’d try a set of new, name brand OEM cartridges and just see if that makes any difference. At least then you’d be able to rule out the kind of ink cartridge (remanufactured v. OEM).
