Hearing loss – The deterioration of the nerve?

Septiticemia My son had meningitis when he was 18 months, a year after we were told had a hearing loss in her left ear had a hearing aid fitted, is now 4 and we were told his hearing was worse in the left ear and were told that a nerve damage. We hope to see a specialist nobody knows if this can be fixed by the surgery? Will you be completely deaf?
