Heavy Duty Wheelchair

Will my doctor allow me to continue to work?
I work in a residential program for individuals with mental and physical disabilities. This one individual is over 300 pounds. I normally ( as everyone else) lift him into his wheelchair by sitting him on his bed with his feet hanging off. I then ask for a hug and he knows he will be transferred. He puts his hands around my neck and hugs. I lift him with my knees about 2 feet to his wheelchair. This feels really stable and I never struggle. I don’t even feel he is very heavy and I am by no means strong. My question now that you have some background, Will my doctor continue to let me work if I am pregnant and do this kind of lifting? Or do I have to start using the hoyer lift? Me switching jobs is out of the question as well as light duty. I cannot switch to day shift to do light duty. I have never used the hoyer so I don’t know if it is any less lifting than the way we do it.
O by the way this would be my second child, with my first being from a C-Section if that matters.
Your doctor can’t stop you from doing anything you want physically. However he can recommend what is dangerous and what is safe. He can write you medical orders stating what amount of weight you are allowed to lift and your employer is required by law to obey those orders but it up to you to follow through and listen to them. Personally switching to the hoyer lift is safer for both you and the patient you’re working with. Think about it, if your back spasms due to the increased strain from the baby moving things around inside and you let this man fall, what will happen to your job? As you progress through your pregnancy you will find that things that are easy now are no where near so easy. The second time around caused those things to happen earlier for me.
