I have no idea how to even begin this problem. Does anybody?
A dentist’s chair with a patient in it weighs 2080 N. The output plunger of a hydraulic system begins to lift the chair, when the dentist’s foot applies a force of 61.1 N to the input piston. Neglect any height difference between the plunger and the piston. What is the ratio of the radius of the plunger to the radius of the piston?
I dont know how to begin to find the ratio of the RADIUS’?!
force = pressure * area so if pressures are equal then the areas are different.
2080 :61.1
area output : area input
area = pi* r^2
ratio is then r(out)/r(in) = sqrt{2080/61.1)
