Do you think it is ok for a man to wear compression stockings for health reasons?

I really hurt my legs and once a doctor thought I had a blood clot in the beginning, but I used to be a distance runner and now a bike. When I went to bed at night, I can not sleep because my legs hurt. The doctor advised me to wear socks or stockings.
