Rod Woodson
The early years
Woodson is the youngest of three brothers and sisters, who had a close relationship. His late father Woodson James was an African-American and her mother, Linda Jo, is white and married to provide a stable home for Joe, Jamie and Rod. R. Woodson attended Nelson Snider High School Fort Wayne, Indiana. He played defense and a variety of offensive skill positions throughout the state and was his last years Junior and Senior. In addition to football, won two championships with high and low hurdles state, both in the college basketball season, higher average and has played his junior and senior year, which makes all conferences in the last year.
Academic
Woodson accepted a full scholarship to play football at Purdue, in part by a desire for degree in electrical engineering. Woodson has played primarily as a defensive back and kick returner, but also saw action on offense in the corridor and receiver. He was reappointed defending All-American in 1985 and 1986, and was a three-time All-Big Ten first team selection. In his final collegiate game Woodson acquired more 150 combined yards rushing and also ten tackles and forced a fumble, which Purdue to a victory over rival Indiana.
Woodson left Purdue with 13 records individual, including matching the school record with eleven interceptions in his career. He is currently ranked in the top ten career interceptions, only tackles, tackles, passes deflected, and the film as a Boilermaker punt return.
In addition to his on the grill, Woodson was also an accomplished athlete and Purdue, and twice received All-America honors. Currently holds the record for the school as the 60 and 110 meter hurdles, events in which he has won five Big Ten championships. In 1984, he qualified for the Olympic Trials in the 100 meter hurdles but decided to continue his career in the NFL after graduating from Purdue with a degree in criminal justice.
Woodson was inducted into the Purdue Intercollegiate Athletics Hall of Fame in 2003.
Pro football career
In 1987, Woodson was prepared by the Pittsburgh Steelers draft # 10 overall. He returned punts and played defensive corner of Pittsburgh in 1996 season.On November 22, 1987 SE was ranked third on the list deep in a game against division rival Cincinnati Bengals have played in Cincinnati Riverfront Stadium, Woodson was inserted into the secondary. Woodson took a little nomadic career after Pittsburgh's free agency after the Rooney family has chosen not to renew his contract for a wage dispute and stop wage. (The team had a similar dispute with Franco Harris in 1984 and later with Alan Faneca in 2008.) Although it kept Pittsburgh to raise his family, then change with Rooney from three additional franchises, becoming one of the few modern cornerbacks to succeed to make a transition to the safety position, following the footsteps of Ronnie Lott. Woodson signed with the San Francisco 49ers for the 1997 season, the Baltimore Ravens for the years 1998-2001 (where he won the Super Bowl XXXV), and Oakland Raiders in 2002 and 2003 (where he appeared in his third Super Bowl). During the 2002 season the Raiders Super Bowl 37, Woodson led the NFL in interceptions (8) for the first time in his career. His last appearance was on 16 November 2003 against the Minnesota Vikings Daunte Culpepper.
NFL records and accomplishments
Woodson NFL is one of the all-time leaders in games played as a defensive and interceptions. In his 17 seasons in the NFL, Woodson recorded 71 interceptions, return yards 1483 interception, 32 fumble recoveries (15 offensive and 17 defensive), ran back 137 yards, 4 894 kickoff return yards, return yards in 2362 clearance, and 17 touchdowns (12 returns interceptions, a fumble returns, two kickoff returns, two punt returns). It has the league record for interceptions returned for touchdowns with 12 and is tied with 11 other players on the record for most recoveries are escaped in a game (3). In 2007 he was ranked number 22 on the U.S. list Today 25 players in the NFL for 25 years.
