No, they should not. Automated sphygmomanometers should be used when no cuff around manual. Often give false readings. They inflate and deflate, then inflate it back again. If the patient is hypotensive, then give a reading false. Manual blood pressure cuffs are essential to determine the pulse paradoxical. I have a manual BP in both arms left and right, and then with a cuff Automatic PA and found no correlation. This is my personal opinion, and are dangerous and are rubbish. In the unit where I worked were asked to remove them.
