iPod touch "how do you download music."?

I have the ipod touch, is very comlpicated or am I? I try to download songs it's fairly easy, but how I can download new songs without deleting all the old? Can someone please explain to me please. As my subject is the technical basis to do it step by step. All existing songs get deleted and downloaded the new find. How I can downlod new songs without erasing all the songs already exist?

If you download new music on it, to replace the songs that are currently on, if that happens, then it seems that there is something wrong with that and you should resume.
