Flat feet problems – visit a podiatrist or visit a popular orthopedic appliances private?

My feet are flat and need support arch and orthotics. Also my chiropractor told me I have to do a heel due to a leg is about 1 / 2 "shorter than the other. There are many popular Private and custom orthopedic stores in my area, as GoodFeet and others. Is it better to have medical orthotics by a podiatrist or manufactured by one of these types of stores? What is the most comfortable and works best? 10-15 years ago had braces I got from a podiatrist, but they were very uncomfortable.
