Cost of taking a “power” wheel chair to Brasil?

I have heard from a person that lives near me and she told me that it did not cost anything for her to take her “power” chair; she was traveling in “continental” USA. She rode the chair up to the plane and they took “power” chair and loaded it underneath in cargo. Is this a “true” statement?

most major airlines allow you to check the item free of charge in addition to your regular checked baggage allowance. just make sure to call the airline a few days before you travel to make sure that they knwo you’re coming. you will probably have to check the powered chair, but the airport will provide someone with a wheel chair to take you to your plane if you need it.
