what are the laws about returning shoes-worn only a few hrs indoors?

I bought shoes ($100). tried to take them back. store wouldn’t. I wore them 3hrs indoors. they said they were creased where foot bends. tried to tell me that this is the shoe drs recomend with the problem i have. they said i could return them the day i bought them. they hurt my foot to the point that i can’t walk in them. they said i just need to break them in. I have bought other cheap ($10) shoes that did not hurt my foot from day one. as soon as i change from SAS shoes, my foot doesn’t hurt. put them on and they hurt my foot. they didn’t hurt until i had worn the for an hr, i again tried the next day for an hr. hurt the minute i put them on. they did put pads in them when i tried to return them. any help with laws governing shoe returns, and where i can find a copy of the law if one exists. thanks.

There are no “laws” regarding footwear returns at a store. Each store will have a return policy that they will follow. I work at a store that sells shoes and I am in charge of all our footwear, including returns. I will return a pair of shoes as long as it is not visibly worn. If it has been worn outside, no way. I always tell customers to try them around their house for a while to make sure they feel fine. If they hurt, they can be returned.

The only issue comes when it looks like they’ve been worn a lot. If I can’t re-sell them, I will not take them back. I’ve had people refuse to buy shoes because of the “crease” you’re talking about from just trying them on around the store. I, personally, think these people are crazy, but because of this, if the crease is bad, I won’t return them. I understand your annoyance with this, but keep in mind many customers today are stupid and ignorant when it comes to shopping (I don’t mean you! I mean everyone else). People want discounts on everything! I have people asking for discounts on shirts because they know someone had tried it on before or returned it before. It’s ridiculous. So, as I understand your plight, I also understand the store’s position. It depends on the shoe to me.

Look at your shoe objectively…would you buy a shoe from a store if it looked like that? If you REALLY don’t think it’s bad, try to take it back again and explain your opinion calmy…don’t yell at the associate. Talk rationally and maybe they’ll give in. Also, ask to speak with the manager if you’re still not satisfied. He’s the one making the rules, not the cashier so if anyone is going to bend the rule, it’ll be him. Good luck!
