How do I “break in” my new, leather field boots?

I just bought a new pair of Valentini Leather Semi-Custom field boots. How do I break them in?? Do I ride in them? Do I just walk around in them around the house?? Thanks for answering.
First Answer- Do you really soak them in water?? I’ve heard that ruins the leather….

Water is good for leather in small amounts, so I would not recommend soaking them.

Other then that unfortunately all you can really do is ride and walk in them… I wore my everywhere I went and rode as much as I could in them and they broke in pretty fast. It will be a bit of a painful process, but it comes with the territory. Sorry =( If you keep with it, it gets easier everyday.

Also, you can use Fiebings Neatsfoot Oil Compound like you would on a bridle or saddle: Put a bunch on, let it sit for a minute or two, wipe it off with a rag. This will make the leather more supple and soft which will make it easier to brake them in. Do that once or twice and after that if you want, you can just clean them with saddle soap…

Handling them, bending them like you would when you ride, will also help in making them more soft.
