Shin Splint

Think I’m getting a shin splint, Any helpful advice please?
I am 30 years old and do a lot of running. Just recently, I have developed a very painful shin on the inside. There aren’t any lumps yet but someone has suggested it could be the start of a shin splint. I have laid off the running (which is driving me mad). Is there anything else I should be doing please?
It’s like repetitive strain injury in your leg – you should rest for a while, maybe do upper body excercise in the meantime
