If your purse strap is too long, is it unfashionable to tie it in a knot on top your shoulder to make shorte?

My purse strap is made for cross-body, but i want to wear it on 1 shoulder. If I tie the strap in a knot on the top of my shoulder is that too dorky or is it acceptable?
