How to stop the white noise?

I have a Philips TV 26PFL5522D and the only way to connect the TV to my surround sound speakers TV headset is 3.5 mm. The problem is that there is considerable white noise coming from the loudspeakers of sound when using TV OUT headphones. I ran my iPod through speakers and when I plug the 3.5mm jack on my iPod phone no product of white noise. Is this something that any TV or is it possible to stop this?

Surround? Not to mention an amplifier. You connect your surround speakers without amplifier directly to a headphone jack on TV? If so, do not expect a decent sound.
