How to change nylon thigh high low?

I am a beginner in sewing serious. I have a pair of nylon in the knees, which are not really to the knees. They have thighs and I want to use them if the tops are visible under a short skirt little bit short. Now, my questions are: 1. If I had to change, would amend nylon stockings be different from cotton (only the materials I have worked). If so, how? 2. How I can change? Thanks
