Are braces at 36 foolish or selfish?

I have had crowding of my adult teeth since they came in as a child. Unfortunately, my parents were not able to afford to get the problem corrected. My case will involve several adult teeth being removed and I will need to wear braces for 2 or more years. I have been on the fence about this for many years, mostly because I am afraid of the oral surgery required. Partly because I fear I will look foolish with braces and I will also find it a stretch to afford this dental care, which is mostly cosmetic. My husband is supporting my decision what ever it may be. Do you think it would be ridiculous or selfish for me to get braces at the age of 36?

Foolish would be, ignoring your own feelings and making a decision without thinking about it.

Selfish would be, doing these things without consulting your husband and evaluating the financial impact of your decision where your family is concerned.

We all have the right and responsibilty to do things that will make us happier and in turn all of the people we interact with happier. If you are thinking about this today, it has been on your mind since your childhood. You should really take the chance now to close this chapter of your life and proceed with your future. I am not an advocate for superficiality but i do think that people have the right to do what makes them happy!
