How can I get a telecommunications device for the deaf and hard of hearing (TDD)?

Someone I know has a hearing impairment and I think that they would greatly benefit from using a tty. How can I get one for them.

I would call their phone company that they use. They are the ones that typically set up this service for them. I think the boxes are a public service.
