How do I dispose of used lancets and test strips?

Is there a proper way to dispose of these? I feel weird just throwing them in the trash. Right now I just put my used lancets and strips in old strip vials or soda bottles. I usually super glue the cap shut and duct tape it closed. Is this extreme? lol! Thanks!

You are absolutely right to be concerned about disposing sharps. Sharps in the regular trash can be extremely dangerous although your method of disposal is pretty innovative! Since you have small children, I agree with Gary that a sharps disposal box would be a good option for you. They are about three dollars at Walgreen’s or any drugstore and can last you months. I have type one and check my sugar/inject insulin about 5 times/day and mine is only half full after having it 3 months. Here is a link:
