way home from work and saw the fox?

Hi my father was home from work at night (they live near their place of work) and heard something Moving then turn off the flash light to see what the noise was and saw a couple of foxes. One ran into the woods and ran to another dad. Good jump in the air and the fox ran between his legs and keep running to the other side of the forest. Can anyone tell me why this happens please?
