Any doctors?? help! i got in a car crash and have neck pain… advice?
So i got in a pretty bad car crash totaling my car and now my neck really hurts from whiplash or just stiffness… if anyone is a doctor or nurse… do you know if i should ice it? put hot patch? get a neck brace? or any other advice… i would normally go to the doc but i am soooo busy this weekend with a bunch of family in town for a birthday party but PLEASE HELP me! thanks
Tessa, try this and see if this helps you. First for the pain use ice for fifteen to twenty minutes per hour or as often as you can. Don’t stop using the ice until all of the pain and restrictions are gone. For the movement do this routine. Sit in a straight chair with both feet flat on the floor and try turning your head to one side and then the other. Now one side is going to turn more that the other and that side is the one to start with. Turn the head and neck to that side as far and hard as you can for fifteen seconds and then rest for thirty seconds. Repeat this process twice more always pushing the movement as far as you can and as hard. After the last turning and rest of thirty seconds now turn the head and neck to the opposite side as far and as hard as you can for fifteen seconds. Rest for the thirty seconds and repeat this process twice more. There should now be more mobility and less pain present in the neck. Now take one arm and raise it up as high as you can and take note of how high it moves. Do the other arm and compare the two. Start with the arm that went higher and raise it up as high as possible for fifteen seconds and rest for thirty. Do that routine twice more and after the last rest period do the opposite arm. Do three series of arm elevations as high and hard as you can for the fifteen seconds with a thirty second rest period in between. Now again move your head and neck and there should be a larger improvement in mobility. Continue doing these movements until all movement has been restored and there is no pain. I would also suggest that you see a physical therapist to help you with any postural issues that might also arise from this.
