How much privacy do you give your teen?

How much privacy do you give your teen? (Especially regarding electronics – Internet, phone, iPod, etc.) Just curious as I have two teens of my own.

My mom trusts me, because she has not been given a reason not to trust me…and I take pride in that! I never do anything, write anything, listen to anything, etc that she wouldn’t approve of.
Grant it, I don’t have a facebook, I listen to all country musci (ha ha) and my cell phone is never on (which she actually complains about because she can’t reach me when she needs to!).
As fars as privacy, I have watched my friends relationships with the parents fall to pieces because they don’t trust their kids or give them any privacy. But then I have also watched peers self destruct/really screw up because their parents didn’t watch their facebook accounts, internet usage, texts, etc.
I think stuff like the internet and music you can try to moniter, but facebook and texting are much harder to control without completely stripping their privacy. You just have to find the right balance.

PS – Just make it clear to your teens that you trust them, and once that trust is violated its going to be hard to get back! Thats what my mom did, and it really made me understand!
